A few years ago I was out with my dog (when I was still living with my parents in Billingham), anyway I was walking around the local field, at night in the winter, when I noticed a red glow in the sky....transfixed I watched as it turned from red to green to blue, a truly beautiful site, I went home and thought nothing more until the local news came on and mentioned that people up and down the NE coast had reported the same thing I'd seen, media being the media they got experts involved and they confirmed that it was in fact Aurora borealis.

Now I do have it on good autority that at certain times of the year you can see "The Northeren Lights" as far down as the Southern Scotland and Northern England....It's just a case of being in a very remote place away from street lighting and knowing the times they'll be on show...needle in a hay stack mean anything...Good luck!

I've seen them when i was in Nunthorpe as a teenager.

Much more impressive when I saw them in arctic Sweden a couple of years ago
