Hi.

I recently bought a second hand Fury to get Back in to biking after a few years away.
It's a decent bike and is in generally good condition but I noticed the rear wheel is not turning freely.

After a bit of trouble shooting I've narrowed it down to the rear hub. When the quick release is undone and I spin the wheel it turns for what seems like forever but when I tighten it up again it returns to barely making a whole turn before stopping.

There doesn't seem to be any play in it but it does make the occasional clicking noise.

Any suggestions as to what the problem is and the cheapest cure?

Thanks for your help.

Ed

Difficult to say. Clicking sounds ominous, and could be wear in the bearings/hub, which may need replaced... Could just be the cones a bit tight, which tighten up a notch more when the quick release is secured....but you'll be lucky. Might be best just taking it to a bike shop, they should be able to advise.

Could probably get away with just servicing the hub if you wanted to do it yourself, but as you're asking the question, I'm guessing it might not be something you're comfortable with? Bike shop would probably try to sell you a new wheel. Which to be fair, wouldn't be that expensive, if you got a good deal.
