Lifted from a news site, it seems that Paul Gascoigne has been arrested and sectioned under the mental health act!!!!!

"Former England soccer star Paul Gascoigne has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

He was detained after Northumbria Police arrived on Wednesday night to a hotel in Gateshead.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Police attended the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead yesterday evening after we received a report of concern for a 40-year-old man staying at the hotel.''

"The man was detained under the Mental Health Act and no-one was injured during the incident.''

Gascoigne has had a troubled history of emotional instability and erratic behaviour.

Once regarded as one of the world's best footballers, Gascoigne's playing career was plagued by personal problems, many linked to his heavy drinking.

He has has been treated on a number of occasions for drink and mental health problems.

In 2005, he was hospitalised with pneumonia, sparking fears over his long-term health, and last year he underwent emergency surgery for a perforated stomach ulcer.

He has also had several run-ins with the police over the years.

A spokeswoman for Hilton Hotels said Gascoigne had been at the hotel for only a day.

She said there was no trouble before police arrived.

"He had only been staying with us for one night. He checked in on Wednesday morning,'' she said.

"The call actually came in from the police so it was not from the Hilton.

"From our end the police call came in and we were obviously happy to help but there was nothing that happened at the hotel to make us think that there was anything wrong and once the police arrived that evening, he was escorted peacefully away.''

She added: "It's a very sensitive situation.''

No members of staff at the hotel were available to comment.

Northumbria Police said the individual detained at the Hilton had been involved in another incident at the Malmaison Hotel in Newcastle earlier on Wednesday.

A spokesman said: "Police were called to Malmaison in Newcastle at 4.24am on Wednesday February 20 after reports that a guest was behaving in a disorderly manner towards other guests.

"The man was spoken to by police and left the hotel.'' "

I firmly believe that Gazza's heavy, heavy drinking has lead him up this road, what do you think Question

It is sad to hear that Gazza has hit the wall, great football player. But like you say, the drink will always finally catch up in the end. Gazza should of taken a lesson from George Best, with his problems. But everyone has some problems sometime in their life, I was drinking whisky due to feeling of low ebb at one time. I snapped out of it and said to myself, get a grip of yourself. That's when I took up walking and cycling and never looked back. I do enjoy the odd glass of whisky now and again. But why is the celebrities, always wanting attention. Look at Amy Winehouse, great r&b/soul/jazz singer. But again it's drugs and drink destroying her, even Keith Richards has warned her against Heroin abuse. Getting back to Gazza, he seems to blame it on his best buddy - "Five Bellies" for the drinking. A total waste of good talent.

The name Frank Bruno also springs to mind, wasn't he sectioned also quite recently, sometime in the last 2 years, another shame, such great sportsmen with such powerful physiques that have taken years of hard training to get to that level.

My Sister's ex-Husband was a heavy drinker and he died at a early age of 40, of Cirrhosis. My worry is some of young people today, binge drinking.

Agman, I have very strong views on the "Binge Drinking Culture", please do not get me started.

Enough to say that binge drinking developed and grew under the "New Labour" Government in my opinion for 2 reasons.

1) As a way of raising revenue through taxation, no need to raise tax that often at Budget as the amount consumed each year raises exponentially!!!

2) As a way of keeping the population in it's (half cut) place, watching "reality TV" and being more concerned about such "tripe" and the "cult" of celebrity than issues of Politic and Social Welfare Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
