Had one of them too Laughing .. tho my main memory of the Chopper was a horrendous speed wobble down a local scary hill with those feckin stupid tall and narrow handlebars, leading to the mother of all offs with my little bro on the back Shocked ......... he still has a little piece of gravel in his elbow to this day you can see through the skin Surprised (them were the days when we never went to hospital for sh!t even as kids Surprised )

Yes indeed. If you hit any speed over 20mph you were in for a serious tank slapping time Laughing

and if you think that was bad, imagine what is was like when I put larger forks on it (from a road bike) and a smaller front wheel (from a Tomahawk).

Steering was merely decorative at that point Shocked

Whens it land ?

Landed and had a big gouge out the side of the headtube so I rejected it.

Why is it becoming so difficult to buy a bike Laughing

Next in line is a bit of a curious choice but I keep going back and looking at them, get good reviews too. Even if i've never actually seen one out and about.

Getting very tempted to pull the trigger on one of these>

Not to mention I've got a Thompson dropper in my bits box which I think is the only thing its missing?

Shocked

Have to say I've never been a fan of the looks of GT if I'm honest (never liked the top tube Confused ) but is quite nice .. that floating BB looks interesting, how is it supposed to cope with hard lifting force with clipless ?

Right I've had it a few months now and managed to not send it back, think i've found a keeper for the time being at least.

The bike fits really well and feels comfy to cover decent distances on, not done any really big rides on it yet but i'm sure its well up to the job in hand.

The rear suspension is superb, on the first look it appears complicated but its got no extra parts to the usual 4 bar link design its just the bits are in a different order. The way it seems to hook up and find traction on tech climbs is ahead of anything iv experienced before.

There were a couple of changes to the spec from the outset, first thing i did was ditch the 2x setup for a single up front. The raceface Cinch system really impressed me, the crank just has a locknut like a centerlock disc behind the spider allowing the full setup to slide off and a single ring to replace all of it.
It had a lot of wires up front with the mechs, brakes, and front & rear cable lockouts. I also removed the thumb adjuster for the front forks, didnt think i would use it so got rid of it. The back one adjusts the rear shock into 3 settings from the thumb shifter and i've been using that a lot.

I did treat it to a new lighter set of wheels too, nothing wrong with the wheels it came with but when Superstar has some wheels with BOR rims at 50% just after christmas and then sent me a voucher for an additional 50% off anything I couldnt resist. Not actually ridden them yet.

Anyway, some pictures of adventures so far:

Only other planned changes for now are i'm going to try a dropper post and I might get some chunkier tyres for the wet. It comes with ardent race and ikon tyres which are both low tread race tyres.

Overall its a big Very Happy
