Hi
I have an old Univega DS800 which is still taking me all over Exmoor even after all these years, but the rear derailleur exploded the other day. Im having trouble getting a replacement. The bike shops around here dont seem to know what will fit.
It has ‘Centera made in france’ stamped on the derailleur and the grip shift is 8 speed, branded Sachs.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of what will fit and where to buy?

Thanks
Andy

I would have thought that any 8 speed rear mech would have done, something like this:

Halfrauds may even have some thing in just as suitable but cheaper and a bit tackier if price is a problem, or what about ebay.

This is the bike isn't it..........

Agree with Gunner, any old 8sp rear mech should be OK.

Only issue may be the pull differences (as per Shimano vs SRAM).

May be safest to try an pickup a 8sp shifter and deraileur as a pair - you may get a great deal in the January sales.

Shifter for £4:

Mech for £12.99

With SRAM front & back you know it'll all be fine. Add a new cable for a couple of quid and you're fully sorted...

Andy - you could post piccies so we can be 100% sure...

Yes, the small detatchable bracket is the hanger, the new mech should attatch to this and this will attatch to the frame.

Why not take your old unit into a local halfords and have a look at the new against the old to give yourself a bit more assurance on the compatability and how it all goes together before you commit yourself. Wink
