Took my Winter road bike for a spin out over the moorland roads this morning, damn it was ruddy cold, AGAIN. It seemed the quicker I rode, the colder it got, I was actually glad of some those steep climbs near Commondale so that as I struggled to get up to 5m.p.h. I could actually feel a little warmer Embarassed Embarassed

Heading out through Stokesley, I took the back road through Easby and onto Kildale, then a nice few climbs before a long, fast, cold descent into Commondale. Climbing out of Commondale up to the Castleton road is always hard work, but today I was glad of it!!!

Then it was a left turn and another cold descent to the Lockwood Beck and the Moor road. Left again for a steady climb up Birke Brow, and yes, another cold, cold descent, at 40m.p.h. down past Charltons and on through Guisborough. Then it was on to Great Ayton, Seamer and home, and a hot bowl of lamb and veg soup to get me warmed up Wink Wink

Total time out, 3 hours and 06 minutes, total distance=38.2 miles.

Average speed, 12.3 m.p.h. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I know it's only early in the year but I feel that I should have been going a little faster, problem was, I couldn't really pick up the pace on any of the long descents, and there were a few, because of the cold, and I didn't feel like attacking any of the climbs, because.........you guessed it, of the cold.
The only time I was really going at a decent lick was when I got down past Guisborough on the relative flat and then I was able to motor.

Well, at least tomorrows weather is looking fairly decent, can't decide though whether it should be MTB or Road bike Confused Confused Confused

Do you wear bib longs and knee warmers and have porridge before you home.

Long bottoms on, but I should have put my long thermals on too, although strangely enough my legs don't really feel the cold, I had my neoprene overshoes on which did a good job, my feet only started to feel chilly when I got about 4 mile from home.

It didn't feel that cold before I set off, as I said, I think it was mainly a wind chill factor on my upper body, Embarassed

You might be pleased to know the winds are changing for the week-end, going from S-E to S-W then to West. I hate them Easterly winds.

Yes, the upper body always feel the cold. That's why I like bibs, even in the Summer months.

Yes, but Saturday and Sunday look set to be colder than today by all accounts, with temperatures dropping sharply on both nights, including tonight Confused Confused
