Is it unusual to have a thin layer of oil covering the shock piston, if so every time you wash the bike down the oil is going to very quickly run out.
Do these shocks need regular servicing?
Thanks for any help.
Regards Martin.

Without knowing exactly what shock piston I couldn't say about the layer of oil, it's not unusual but it could indicate a worn or damaged seal.

Yes, the shocks should be subject to a strict maintenance schedule, with a closing of the maintenance period if you are a "heavy" rider.

I would take care when washing the shock, and avoid driving jets of water at it from a hose pipe or jet spray, a wet cloth with hot water and soapy liquid would be adequate with a rub over all the parts with light machine oil.

Sorry, just noticed you say it's a Fox RP2, will try and look at the tech data.

Thanks for the links and the advice Gunner, the rear shock is only a couple of weeks old so I was a bit worried about the amount of oil that was leaking. I think I am just being a bit over cautious.
Thanks again
Regards Martin.
