Just finished work at 22:00 and my night ride home is mainly an old railway track in the middle of nowhere. So there I am, ploughing away, focused on the beam of my SCC, when out from some undergrowth on my left appears....

A Badger!! I Couldn't believe it, was great seeing one alive and kicking and not belly up in the road with a tyre mark up it's chin.. Anyhoo, I was chuffed enough with this and expected it to flee off out of sight but you wouldn't believe what it did next, proceeded to run about five feet directly in front of me! And just kept running lol Superb, must have kept going for around 200 metres, little black and white a**e bouncing up and down only feet from my bike.. Absolutely bizarre.. I was aware they're viscious little feckers so resisted riding alongside it but it just kept going and going matching my pace.. Almost got used to it being there lol it only shot off when I cleared my nose.. Made the late night ride home a bit more interesting than the usual bats and rabbits Smile

I had a similar wonderful experience, with an Owl. It flew directly in front of me for about 200 yards up a quiet line. I came to a bend in the road and it flew straight on. However after a minute it reappeared and did the same again. I came to the conclusion (rightly or wrongly) that it was using the light from my bike to see with? Cool

It's great when the local fauna tag along for the ride for while... happened to me once down at Kirroughtree, a red squirrel came out of nowhere and ran beside my bike on the left hand side... I was so amazed at this and was transfixed to the little furry creature, it reminded me of "Scrat" from the Ice Age animated movies.... and like Scrat I was brought back to earth with a thump... when I ran into a bloody tree cos I was not looking where I was going..... Laughing

I'd had it with rabbits and squirrles but never a badger. I often see a few pheasants too.
