Hi i have a Claude Butler Stone river bike.
It is fitted with standard brakes (the kind that rub onthe wheel)
i would like to change over to disk brakes.
I know i have to change te wheels to do this but is there anythink else i need to consider.

a list of every i will needto buy would be great.

Im 30 years old and used to ride and maintain all my bikes when i was a teenager.
But im a bit out of touch with modern bikes so any help here would be great.

thanks

It seems that Claude Butler do a Stone River, the D2 which is fitted with disc brakes, if your bike is similiar in spec. to this then it shouldn't be too much of a problem;

here is a spec. sheet for you to check against;

You will need to check that your fork is disc compatable, if not then you are looking at quite a bit of money for very little gain as you will need to replace the forks.

The Stone River D2 is showing up as about the £260, I don't know what you paid for your cantilever brake model, and I don't mean to sound cheeky, but you would seriously need to ask yourself is it wise to spend on upgrading to disc brakes for the benefits you would get.

Properly set up cantilever brakes should stop you dead on tis bike, I would have said.

I hope this helps, get some good advice before you part with any cash, matey Wink

There is also the issue of having the mounts for the calipers on the seat stays near the dropouts, if not then it wouldn't really be worth it, they can be retro fitted but it's a specialist job so it will cost you.
