Had planned a MTB ride today, going from Guisborough over to Hob Hole then across the moor to Baysdale, across to Kildale and back to Guissy. Smile

But, on seeing what a beautiful morning it was, and so little wind after yesterday Twisted Evil Twisted Evil , I just had to get the OCR out and ride Cool

Setting out from Stainton I headed down to Hilton, then onto Hutton Rudby. Passing a group of roadies on the climb out of the village I turned left at the top and left again and took the back road heading for Carlton.

Up until this point I had been fair flying along, but the climb out of Carlton felt like hard work, until I hit Carlton Bank itself that was. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I am no stranger to this quite hard to climb hill, but admittedly haven't done it in some months, well today, it was ruddy hard going, and I mean, HARD GOING.

Anyway, at the top I pressed on without stopping and within seconds was absolutely flying down this lovely long descent towards Chop Gate, touching 40 mph at some points Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

At Chop Gate it was a left turn heading for Clay Bank, a nice long steady climb that I could get my teeth into. Then, at the top it was right turn and a very quick descent heading for Ingleby Greenhow. This is a lovely stretch of bendy road with little climbs and dips to push yourself at.

From Greenhow I headed for Easby, then Great Ayton and on to Pinchinthorpe, managing to keep the pace up, then it was a left turn at the roundabout and a quick blast along the dual carriageway and back to Stainton via Stainto Way.

All in all, about 36 mile in 2 hours 30 minutes, but I have resolved to include Carlton Bank in a few more of my early Summer runs to try and improve on my really poor performance on it today Embarassed Embarassed

i know what you mean about the wind yesterday finally dusted off my road bike and went for a 40 mile ride with suec and a lad from work, heading from Norton to Great Ayton taking all the back roads joining clay bank then onto Stocksley and back home.As i have a really bad memory will have to ask suec how long it took, riding a Specialised roubaix ( i think thats how you spell it )

There's some nice back roads out that way Darren, fairly traffic free and with just the right mix of dips and little climbs, and sweeping bends to keep you amused, especially if you're in the mind to pick up the pace a little, or have a nice tailwind with you!!!
