As a result of everyone posting about the new bike they have just got, or the dream bike they want to get, I decided to have a look about and see if any thing took my fancy......... Confused Confused

Well, there's some lovely full susser's out there and at quite reasonable prices, but, I'm a big, big fan of hardtails and can't really see myself on a full susser Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Looking in Bikescene there were some nice Marins, especially this;

But, hang on, I thought, I've already got one of those tucked away in the garage

Confused Confused

Yeah, I know, it looks a bit on the "heavy" side, and it's 8 years old, but I don't have any problem with it what-so-ever, in fact on Saturday, I put it to the test and blazed from home, to the top of the "Unsuitables", and back home (19.8mile) in a very respectable time Smile

But, today, with a bit of time on my hands, I decided to have a tinker.......

I took off the Smart lights from the front end, and removed the rack and rear mudgaurd from the back. Then I fitted a replacement cassette to the back wheel and gave everything a good lube and grease while it waqs stripped down. The new cassette is a bit "tighter", and gives a bit more low down grunt if you know what I mean. I also fitted a Panaracer Cinder 1.95" tyre to the back. May as well have rubber that can deliver that "low down grunt" rather than spinning out in the mud.............

Then I fitted 2 new water bottle cages, a frame bag for my spare tube and tools, and a new, rear gaurd from Halfords which I mangaed to get quite cheap as they had the wrong price on display.

So, I have now ended up with this, and let's see how it rides tomorrow when I take it for a good thrashing over Battersby Moor Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

MY REVAMPED MARIN ELDRIDGE GRADE;

Looks like I'm going to have fun Laughing Laughing Laughing

I like my climbing, so I find a "rigid" ideal for that, and also I like my Cross Country, which often times involves just being able to pick the bike up and sling it on my shoulder and "yomp" to next rideable bit of trail.

If truth be told, I wouldn't really mind going back to a fully rigid MTB, such as the Marin Palisades Trail, or the KHS Montana Comp. that I used to ride in the 80's. Very Happy Very Happy

Well, took it out for a spin this morning early doors, chucking it round the tracks on Battersby Moor and through the Plantations, very pleased I was too Laughing Laughing

New brake blocks needed, and I think I'll pop into Westbrooks and get a Panaracer Cinder 2.25" for the back end and move the Cinder 1.95" from the back to the front. Wink

And talking about chucking!!!!!

Did I mention that it was absoulutely chucking it down early on this morning up on the Moor, the rain was just coming down in sheets so heavy that not even the wind had an impact on it Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Anyway, the tyres and blocks will have to wait a few days as the left hands out of action after an awkward "off" Embarassed Embarassed getting too used to the SPD's on my other bike, to be messing on with clips and straps on this one, Ebay here I come Wink
