What started off as a cracking ride this morning managed to go all "Pete Tong", about 20 minutes from the end. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I got to Guissy Woods nice and early with my newly refurbished Marin Eldridge, now sporting SPD's. The weather wasn't really what I was expecting, I had thought blue sky's and glorious sun but it was quite foggy, as you can see Shocked Shocked

VIEW OF BOUSDALE WOODS:

Anyway, I set off up through the woods managing a decent pace, and across Roseberry Common and down througgh Aireyholme Farm, the fog beginning to lift by now and it starting to become very, very warm.

ROSEBERRY TOPPING AS THE MISTS CLEAR:

Then it was across Dikes Lane and climbing up past Red Run and across the moor below Cooks and through the woods to Bankside Farm. This track was lovely and dry and nice and fast.

From here I headed back over to Gribdale and climbed up on to the track to take me back to Giussy Woods. The weather here was still glorious and I stopped to take some more photo's before intending to follow the Black Route for that nice little downhill bit:

BACK AT GUISSY WOODS:

THEN THE ROT SET IN Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

As I rode down towards Hanging Stone at a fair lick Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

I came off a right cropper, my face planing along the track and the handlebars squarely implanted in my ribcage, while managing to graze every other part of my body somehow and doing in my right wrist!!!

As I came round, bleeding profusely, wondering whether I had cracked my ribs and trying to count how many of my teeth I had lost, I couldn't understand what had happened, the track was relatively level, and there were no branches etc that could have fouled my wheel. Confused Confused

When I was able to stand up and chec out my bike, the front wheel was totally wrecked as were the forks and brakes, there was no way I could ride it and even pushing it was out of the question as the front wheel just would not budge.

So it was a case of shoulder bike and forced march back to the car park Sad Sad

Anyway, who should I bump into just minutes from the scene on the main trail all having a breather, but Paul, Matt, Ollie and Alex Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Returning home and getting cleaned up, I took a photo of the damage, to the bike.......

I can only presume that the front Q/R has come out somehow or failed and the wheel has then fouled the forks causing me to go down and the forks have twisted with the weight and force behind them..........

I know one thing............

It's going to cost....... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

And I'm in agony Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Wow Gunner, thought I had bad ride to day....

Went over the bars twice (lucky both tiimes I was going slow), then towards the end near the newish trail b4 the chute, miss judged a corner and crashed out down the bank.

It sounds bit small compared to your crash but all the same enough to knock my confidence b4 Glentress next sunday.

Hope u and the the bike are too damaged.

Cheers

Greg

Well, Filthy, fit maybe Wink but fighting, I think I'll take a rain check on that Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Here's a picture of what my handlebars managed to do to my ribcage now that the swelling has gone down a little.............

The only good news so far is that things are not looking so expensive.

The wheel is trashed, obviously, but the forks appear to have only twisted at the headset and seem to have re-aligned o.k. Once I can fit the front wheel of my Titanium I can nip out and test it and hopefully all will be o.k. and all I'll need will be a front wheel Wink

Oh and maybe a new set of "V" canti's, but they're buttons Laughing Laughing

Still no nearer to working out what caused the "off" in the first place though Embarassed Embarassed
