Had a great ride tonight !!

Looks like I have to work Thursday night meaning I'll miss out on the organised ride Sad

As such I set of and tried to do that route from memory Mad Went off script a little but not too bad Embarassed

Through Yarm and past Yarm Train Station, Worsall, Appleton Wiske, West Rounton, East Harsley, Ellerbeck, Osmotherley, Legs aching on the climb up to Cod Beck but I refused to let it beat me knowing I'd be spinning like crazy down to Swainby. Hutton Rudby (Tried to catch up with a lad wearing yellow but lost him into the village), Crathorne then back through Yarm and home.

BikeHike has the route at 32Miles and I managed it in under two hours. Very Happy (Even had to stop and take a short call from work)

Absolutely buzzing now and thinking of telling work I'm not going in Thursday Twisted Evil

Fantastic ride.

Johnboy

Good effort. Work is greatly overrated.

Tonights ride.

I planned out a relatively flat route and concentrate on my average speed and distance, rather than the hilly stuff we've been doing these last few weeks.

From Guisborough, headed into Gt Ayton turning left for Battersby, Ingleby Greenhow etc. Straight through Gt Broughton and Busby, then left through Carlton and Faceby. By this time I was bloody hot and I backed off somewhat due to the front of my shins taking a bit of stick.. feeling a touch of pain I was. Nothing too bad, bit I had a lot of miles left to do...

My legs eased off and I upped the pace again along the main road to Swainby. Took a right turning (wrong one! Laughing ) and did a stupid little loop and came back out on to the same main road Laughing Laughing Turned left and onto Potto, Hutton Rudby, Newby, along Brass Castle lane and through Nunthorpe. Back home via the dual carriageway.

I had to really cane it round the 2nd half, as I would have liked a 20mph average. Unfortunately the route became a bit too hilly for what I wanted, took one or two stupid turnings i.e. bumpy farm roads up to Newby. But still, in this heat, I was bloody happy with my effort. Sweating like a pig I was Laughing

Distance: 36 miles
Time: 1hr 52m 44s
Avg speed: 19.1 mph
Max speed: 28.9 mph

Time for a much needed shower Shocked

Cheers Gunner, im very happy considering the heat... or was it just me Laughing

Laughing I know, as soon as I took the right turn down that loop, I knew it felt wrong, but thought what the hell lets just carry on. im just glad the road led me back to normality and not some dead end farm.

Thats a lot of miles you've put in there Gunner, I think i'd have collapsed in this heat Laughing

You guys put me to shame..... just the commute to work for me today. 18 miles round trip.

Gunner - did you go up Blakey Bank?

Greg - good speed that. Your fitness has come on leaps and bounds over the last couple of weeks. And yes, it was bloody hot tonight. Not much breeze at all.

I went up Blakey Road, from just outside Hutton le Hole (coming from Gillamoor) right through to Castleton.

Evening Gents

Only had an hour or so tonight to get home before dark.

Eaglescliffe, Yarm, Worsall, Appleton Wiske, West Rounton, Crathorne, Kirklevington, Yarm and home.

Got caught in the rain a little but in the heat was glad of the chance to cool down.

Bike Hike has it at 19.14 miles and fairly flat. One hour and ten mins (ish). I really should get a bike computer (KNOG N.E.R.D.? Any thoughts?)

Oh, And to the young lad who cut me up on Yarm High Street in his Peugeot I'd just like to say thanks for spoiling an otherwise great ride!

Cheers

Johnboy

Greg, you are getting too good at this. The next time Poucher wants to bet the house I might have to refuse.

John, don't know what your budget is but if you can afford it the Garmin Edge 305 is the real deal. Some good bargains on it if you shop around

A quick ride tonight to break in my new SPD pedals & shoes - what a difference! Just out past Maltby and back, my first and longest trip out there. Was a very enjoyable ride, although a few climbs took me by suprise but I managed to power on without falling off. I was a bit worried about no being able to unclip my foot at the traffic lights outside the pub on Acklam road Very Happy

Which pedals/cleat combination do you have? Unclipping should be very easy really
