Assuming you have a good breakfast, I go with a big bowl of porridge before a long ride, you should have the best part of 2 hours "fuel" on board. If its over an hour I'll use an electryte drink rather than squash.

Over a 2 hour ride and I'll have a banana about an hour in, then a gel at about 2 hours and then probably every 1/2 hour after that, have learned the tell tale signs in my legs that I am going to need one.

Could take a bag of jelly beans/babys and much on them too?

I have been know to take 2 banana's, round of sandwiches, gels, energy drink tablets along on a ride, that was a 94mile solo ride though (Had to find a tap for bottle refils ) Amazing what you can fit in road jersey pockets!

you have got to admire the marketing of these companies , they are basically selling something you can make yourself but for a fraction of the price. I go with the porridge , banana and soreen approach , drink wise High 5 electrolyte tabs , you can get 10, a bottle and a couple of fowl tasting gels for about a fiver or 20 for the same price.

We see the pro's necking them and think we need them , these guys are putting in massive mileage at high speeds but they are also eating real food with them.
