Hi all!

As with every bike I've owned, I thought it being the winter and that I'm not going to be able to ride until spring (Following a trip to hospital for a small op, and another op due!!) it was time to strip it, check it over and get it ready for the spring, when I should be able to ride!!
Like I say, I've done this with every bike I've had and tbh, this one doesn't really need it being only six months old, but its just something I do!!
As it goes back together, it will probably have a few upgrades added along the way - nothing major, but just things that I think will add to the way it rides, the most important being a dropper!!
This thread will probably run for a couple of months... I'm certainly not intending to have it all done and back together in a couple of weeks.... too many jobs I want to do right and a bit of money needs spending too!!

Good, we like things like this. Hopefully you'll add some pictures along the way. Wink

With most of its components removed. I'm not going to remove the rear brake, with it having the hose routed through the swing arm it means I would end up having to bleed the brakes, don't really want to have to do this just yet, so will leave it in situ.
The BB has been left in - going to take the frame to the lbs at some point to have a hope stainless one fitted and have it faced. Nothing wrong with the race face BB, I just want a hope one now seeing as it has hope headset, brakes and hubs!!

I'd love to see a step-by-step of someone doing this. Things they do & don't do out of interest. What gets lubed etc.

Once done will you just keep it in the house, or in a bag ready for the sun?

I'll drown the site with pictures if people want me too lol!! It lives in its bag indoors anyway, but once lovingly put back together it'll get ridden as hard as before....... I love it dearly, but bikes like these aren't made to be treated with kid gloves eh?

This will be interesting Very Happy

The other night, i was thinking about taking photos of a strip down and rebuild, but it would be a lot of effort stopping every 10 mins to take a photo, plus the bike dont need it yet

So seeing as its pretty much all in bits, I thought a wash was in order. This is currently how the frame, fork and headset look......

Need to order the service kits for the fork and rear shock in the next few days - £56 the pair, so not too bad. The frame will be heading off to the bike shop too, going to have it faced and the Hope stainless bottom bracket put in (want more than need!!).
The headset doesn't need touching, just cleaned all of the bits up and its ready to be reinstalled after the fork is ready.

Facing gets rid of uneven surfaces to allow the bottom bracket to sit better in the frame

Spot on - Apparently this is more critical on the modern breed of external bb's - it levels off the external faces of the bb shell so that they sit 'square' against them, prolonging the life of the bb.

Just got back from the bike shop with a couple of bits......
New pedals, Renthal lock on grips, Hope grip doctors and a Hope non QR seat clamp - I thought I may as well ditch the QR seeing as I also bought a Rockshox reverb whilst I was there!! No photo of that as its still at the shop!
They have offered to fit the reverb for me for free. So the frame, fork and bars are going to the shop on wednesday. Photos of that when it returns.
I've ordered service kits and oils for the fork and shock, so as soon as they get delivered will be stripping and checking those over (with photo's of course!).
