I remember a few years ago you used to be able to get some cream-like product which cleaned your hands without needing water or to rinse it off but I can't for the life of me find anything like it now. I thought a normal alcohol-based hand sanitiser would be enough but the other day my chain came off and after getting it back on I tried using it to clean the oil from my hands but it didn't do a very good job. The stuff I bought years ago would cut through grease and oil easily.

Is there anything like that now which cleans through oil and grease without needing to rinse, at least not until you get home?

I find it easier to carry a few vinyl gloves, (surgical type gloves). They are ideal to just slip on if you need to do a messy trail side job, or even if your caught out in the wet they are ideal to slip on under your gloves to keep your hands dry.

Possibly but the packs they come in take up a bit too much space in my saddle bag.

I've got some smaller sized travel bottles I can put stuff like the cleanser I'm talking about in to.

Second for baby-wipes and surgical gloves

Put a few of both in a sandwich/freezer bags twist tie the top that way you can put the dirty ones away throw them when you've finished, no mess no real weight gain or space lost.
