I love the place, started riding here over 20 years ago, so much to do and see (including wild boar). There are three waymarked trails; the Green Family Trail, the Blue Verderers Trail and the Red Freeminers Trail. There's also Swallowvallets which is the DH area with loads of tracks and a skills area. Additionally, there's loads of unmarked singletrack available so you can explore to your heart's content. _________________ '96 Zaskar LE (now the wife's)

It's an hour for me too, whereabouts in the mudlands are you?
As for ride-able, I'm overweight and underfit and can do 3 laps of the blue in around 2.25 hours. That's 19.5 miles and 2000 feet of climbing. There's nothing too technical on the lap that can't be ridden.
The revised red trail is a different kettle of cats though; tight, nadgery climbs, steep descents, tabletops, dropoffs and roots. Loads and loads of roots. _________________ '96 Zaskar LE (now the wife's)

Tbh the techy stuff dosent bother me too much, I've always ridden natural terrain usually in the middle of nowhere on my tod and come across some pretty gnarly stuff, I just seem to have lost my core fitness this year having done very little riding
The short "out of the saddle " techy climbs are fine, I seem to be really struggling with the sustained climbing tho .. it's pissin me off a bit tbh ... partly cus I know the only way forward is obviously a lot more riding ... and pain ... oh yes, lots of pain _________________ 2015 Nukeproof Mega AM Pro 275 (upgrades)

The mountain bike trails at FoD will probably be closed next weekend as its the wyedean rally. They don't want to take the risk of someone wandering off the trail and into the path of a charging rally car...
Check the forestry commission website though as they may keep a couple of trails open.
Edit: it's closed on Saturday but should be open on Sunday http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestofdean _________________ It's not the big that eat the small, but the fast that eat the slow...

I'll have to see which day my buddy wants to dive, I may be able to persuade him to pick Saturday. _________________ '96 Zaskar LE (now the wife's)
