SWMBO & I had a drive out to Saltaire today, ostensibly to visit & wander round Salts Mill
http://www.saltsmill.org.uk/

Plus, it's our nearest UNESCO World Heritage Site!!
http://www.saltairevillage.info/

During the wander round, I'd forgotten about this shop, but we went in; http://www.allterraincycles.co.uk/

Afterwards, whilst walking around the village, she asked me why didn't I buy a new bike?. as she & daughter were going on two holidays this year, & I'm stopping at home

As we continued onwards, with our journey (Baildon Moor, Riddlesden, Keighley, Haworth, Denholme. & the tea-stop at the 'Causeway Foot Inn', I still questioned it

Thoughts please! - with one model in mind (unless, she purely meant it, only whilst in Salts Mill??), does anyone have/know anyone with a Ribble CR3???
http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/build/specification/view/specification_i d/16/#groupset

It'd replace my all-rounder/winter/work bike; one of their blue aluminium 'audax' bikes
I also have a Gran Fondo, that she bought me, for my 50th birthday, back in late 2015

Plus we called at the 'Causeway Foot Inn', at Ogden, for tea;

Not been there, since this, as we registered, at the pub!

The (50th birthday present) Gran Fondo; http://www.mtbe.co.uk/new-bike-ordered-t51718.html

Had a bit of an e-mail 'ping-pong' with Ribble

I'm interested in a hydraulic-disc-ed, Tiagra CR3, with a 34/50 chainset

However, I can have that, if I buy the cheaper (aluminium framed) GCR & a vast choice of tyres

Oddly, I can't seemingly order the self-same groupset on a CR3 (& have to have a 46/36 chainset), & restricted to a choice of 3 CX tyres..............

Odd!! Rolling Eyes

Wish my Cannondale Sysnapse had hydraulic disc brakes, not a great fan of the cable operated ones that are fitted to it. Sad

It's always a bit odd, before I ever tried discs, I'd have thought that the mechanical connection given by a cable, would be better than a fluid one
Till the realities of cable-stretch & fluid incompressibility come into it

That said, I should really have remembered the Maguras on my Pace Research, & the feel that they had (even with that frame, you could still feel it flex, if you squeezed the lever hard & held the seat-stays

Conversely, I can have an Ultegra equipped CR3, with my choice of all the ring/crank combinations they offer
(don't want to go to that expense though)

Yes, especially as there's the 2017 frames/bikes coming soon

They can't tell me (won't???) when though

I've seen some of the pics from a show, & for example, there's a 840gram road-frame, & a disc-braked Gran Fondo (what I got for 50th)

I had the chance to have a look at a GCR, at http://www.squires-cafe.co.uk/ today

One of the partakers in the Seacroft Wheelers 'reliability ride' was on one
Granted it was a 58cm frame, so dimensional comparison to my 'blue/winter' Ribble wasn't going to happen
It looked good, if very brightly coloured, his was specced with hydraulic 105 group,

I didn't get that much chance to talk to him about it, as the group he was with were heading off
Very happy with it though

Even though it's very, very close in appearance/perceived role to the Planet X London Road, I'll stick with the GCR, compared to the PX, as personally, I'm not a fan of SRAM, & want to 'keep it in the family', because (as previously stated) I already have 2 Ribbles

Sods Law dictates that I'll order a GCR, due to the chainset/hydraulic brake availability, & before it arrives, they'll let me know that the 2017 builds allow such items

After a working week, the 'My Order' section of the website still states

'Pending' Evil or Very Mad
