I actually want an underseat operated dropper with no hoses or cables, but would this be any good at under 80squid ? Confused

Yes, I have one on my CX bike and it's just the job. You've just got to anticipate needing the saddle slightly lower. I have one of the below from ebay with a shim piece to make it fit.

Don't have internal routing on the Trek, and don't want another hose or anything else on the bars tbh ... I'm really not bothered about having to reach down to the lever either Wink
