Unlike a cassette sprocket that has far less teeth engaged and thus less wraparound, you can get by with far more wear on chainrings.

Slightly strange as sprockets are hardened steel and chainring ...

For general riding I highly recommend Conti GP 4seasons 700 x 25. Far more reliable than the possibly more popular and lighter GP4000S.

Dave, these are quite hard to find if you want decent quality ones. I recommend the Shimano BR-R451.

Road calipers come in two standard sizes:-

Close clearance for bikes without guard clearance = 39 mm when brake shoe is at highest point to 49mm at lowest point.

I replaced both my road Ultegra brackets with Hope stainless ones - a great upgrade as they're serviceable and of course, if anything's wrong, Hope will bend over backwards to help.
