If he's switching to HTII then will need a HTII BB also

Some cranksets come with the BB too, but they are only about £7 - £15 to buy anyway.

120mm will be fine

I've built two Avalanches up using a set of adjustable (80mm -130mm) Rockshox Tora 318 forks (now on my Inbred) and had them set at 120mm for off-road (80mm for commute)

Nothing wrong with Alvio. The ones I used lasted just as long as Deore or SLX ones I have owned

Front Mechs tend to last forever unless you damage them

I've been using a cheap Chinese 45000Lm 14x LED Cree XML T6

The brightness is nowhere near their outlandish claims, and you could never use the strobe on it ...

A worn mech and cables can make indexing difficult

Your tension-er works the same way as the newer mechs that have them on the shifter

That's a very heavy frame (in excess of 3kg) and couple that with those beefy Tora 318 forks in excess of 2.5kg and it's thats a big beastie

very bombproof though
