My Pearl Izumi have mesh on the upper so can be a bit wet & cold in winter but they are half a size too big so I just put 2 pairs of socks on. I've been meaning get some seal skinz socks which should sort the problem. Try and look for a good solid toe box on shoes like on the Pearl Izumi's. I've booted boulders while pedaling with mine and not felt a thing thankfully. My mate has some SPDs that look like walking boots. He rates them but I think they may get a bit too warm in summer. Plus I couldn't get away with having laces, I'd get them caught and cruded up to hell. Cheers, Sean

They will say if they are SPD compatable, or LOOK or TIME compatable on the shoes or box. Most shoes now are SPD and usually come with the cleats provided.
