Well, what a absolutely cracking ride Very Happy

GREAT ROUTE, Twisted Evil

GREAT COMPANY Cool

AND GREAT WEATHER Shocked Shocked

Meeting at the car park at the top Clay Bank it seemed that the weather was not going to be quite as forecast, there was the hint of rain in the air, with a slight drizzle falling.

LOOKING OUT FROM CLAY BANK:

DARRENS BIKE, STILL DIRTY FROM THE LAST RIDE Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes :

Heading off through the forest, it was uphill all the way Very Happy Very Happy , through some quite muddy terrain too, from all the recent rain. At the bottom of Jacksons Bank it was all stop for those who had donned their rain jackets but were now realising their error, already losing sweat by the pint Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

CLIMBING JACKSONS BANK:

Once at the top of Jacksons Bank we were on the Cleveland Way and treated to some great views, the weather had broken as well with the drizzle stopping and the cloud begining to break. After the little climb to Round Hill, we were able to really pick the pace up a bit as we followed the Cleveland Way to Bloworth Crossing and then picked up the old railway line to folow it to the road out of Farndale.

The wide track gave us a good oppurtunity to chat even though we were going some speed.

GOULDY CLIMBS TO ROUND HILL.

BLASTING ALONG ABOVE FARNDALE:

DARREN AND RICHARD CATCH US UP:

Taking a left on to the road we passed the Lion Inn as the sun really started to come out and managed to maintain our good pace on the road despite the slight gradient. Looking over to Rosedale we chatted about the possibility of riding in that area some time. Then, Young Ralph loomed into view, and we stopped for a quick breather, and a "Tunnock bar or two" for Richard.

DARREN WAITING FOR THE OTHERS:

MY MARIN ELDRIDGE AT YOUNG RALPH'S CROSS:

RICHARD AND GOULDY BRING UP THE REAR:

RICHARD SAVOURS HIS TUNNOCK BAR:

HEATED DEBATE ENSUES OVER MOTORCYCLISTS: Laughing Laughing

MY MARIN LOOKS AT THE HEATHER LONGINGLY: Cool

From Ralph's Cross it was a long fast downhill stretch into Westerdale, with myself touching 42 m.p.h. at one point, a short climb out of the village then another mad tarmac downhill to Hob Hole and through the ford, with Richard unclipping and lifting his feet to keep them dry...............He needn't have bothered Laughing Laughing

Then that very steep climb out of Hob Hole and a left turn on to the bridleway for a high speed dash across the moor to the ruined farm, I was really blazing it along here, enjoying myself in the mud.

DARREN ON THE TRACK TO THE RUINED FARM:

RICHARD FOLLOWS, NOW WITH WET FEET:

GOULDY POWERS THROUGH:

From the ruin, we headed off towards Baysdale Abbey, the boggy section here taking Darren completely by surprise. Laughing Laughing
Climbing out of the Baysdale was hard work as the temperature was really beginning to pick up in the valley and this is a steep climb, at the top it was a left turn on to the Cleveland Way for a short distance, before dropping down across the singletrack over Battersby Moor and then a nice rocky descent of Turkey Nab Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Taking a left at the Farm we followed the wide forest track back through the woods passing the bottom of the Incline, then the track becomes quite undulating as it winds towards the road at the bottom of Clay Bank, I was able to enjoy the track here, attacking the climbs and really getting some speed up going up the hills.

ON THE LAST LEG THROUGH THE WOODS;

It was then time for that last "little" climb on the road, back up to the car park, luckily there was a "roadie" going up so that gave me the incentive to push it and pass him and stay ahead 'till the last few feet from the top, I don't know where the other guy's had got too Confused Confused

ONLY JOKING ........ Laughing Laughing

27 mile all told, I think we did, in 3 hours with very little in the way of stops. Cool

Absolutely stonking ride, thanks guy's Wink

Yeah, great route this one, and just the right length for the terrain crossed.

I certainly wouldn't want to do it the other way round though, I know I like my uphill, but that would just be mad Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Wink

Well, you've said it all guys - best ride in years. It had everything. Great company, great views, excellent variety of terrain and, wait for it - I didn't fall off once Cool Cool Even felt mildly confident and relaxed on a steep rocky decent (that's a 1st) Very Happy Very Happy. Many thanks Gunner. Top marks for the write up. Onwards and upwards Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
