Following the good turnouts for the forum rides and Dalby, I thought I’d make a suggestion for a group ride in the not too distant future, but this time away from the North York Moors, out in Swaledale.

Without looking in great detail at a map, I thought a route starting and finishing in Reeth with a length of somewhere between 15 and 20 miles might be good. I’ve ridden the area a couple of times and it has some really good riding which is a bit different to the moors.

It’s probably a good hour from Stockton/Ingleby/etc so about the same travelling time as Dalby.

It’s a ride that’d take in some pretty exposed parts and the area’s best in good weather anyway, so I wondered about a Sunday in late April or early May when the chances of awful weather are a bit lower, depending on what people have got planned for that sort of time.

What do you think?

I'd like to think I'd be able to get along, haven't ridden the Dales in far too long a time Wink

Nice one. If we provisionally said Sunday April 27th, does this suit everyone? We can always move if it clashes with work for anyone. I think I've got a route planned out so I'll try to post a map but with my limited IT skills it may take me a while.......

I was over the Dales last weekend. There are some mega climbs over that way! Shocked ...but with every climb comes a descent Very Happy

4th May would be better for me, Smile

Matt, why not try uploading your map file to any free file host site, such as "www.megafileupload.com", and then just a link to it.

Tis should be o.k. for MMO or GPX, etc., etc. files.

Dale and I are currently working on a link that will allow easier map file uploads, Confused Confused

I'll give that a try Gunner, though forget about MMO and GPX - it'll be a scan of an OS map with a highlighter pen at best!

Well, it's ended up somewhere between memory map and a highlighter!

It's taken some serious cutting & pasting but here it is......

Brief description - start at Reeth - down to Fremington - up Fremi Edge (nasty, nasty climb....) - down to Hurst - across and down thru old quarry to Langthwaite - up across Cringley Hill - across Reeth High Moor to moonscape of Great Pinseat - back down to road - back to Cringley Hill - down thru Nova Scotia to Healaugh - back on road to Reeth - pint of Black Sheep to end the ride.

I've only calculated the distance very roughly but I'd say about 17-18 miles.

Just plotted on my map software, 27.5Km to be exact!
Nova Scotia!! WTF!!!!!
Now there's a claim to fame - "I've rode through Nova Scotia. It took me all of 2 minutes!" Laughing
