Hi there,

Just got myself an MTB for something different to do, and was looking for some advice with routes/group rides.

I'm based in Marton, so my routes lead out towards the Pinchinthorpe visitors centre so they all effectively start from there (trying to avoid roads if I'm on an MTB!). After a few rides, I've found that I'm not a technically gifted MTBer, so want to stick to relatively tame terrain, I don't mind going up big hills but my bike handling is crap!

Are there any routes around the Eston Hills for instance? Sometimes I'd just like an hour or so blast around and don't wanna have to ride right out to Guisborough Woods.

Also, anyone willing to let me tag along with them to gain some knowledge?

I've no problems with you tagging along with me when I'm out. Very Happy

As for being based in Marton, well, there's loads of trails on your doorstep.

For example, take Gypsy Lane station as your start point, head past Nunthorpe School and turn right for Ormesby Bank. Within abouit a hundred yards on your right is a bridleway that takes you across to Flatts Lane, or the old brickworks, lots of trails around here, or you can cross Flatts Lane and climb Pig Bank up Eston Hillls and drop down to S.S. Castle, then back along to the Elephants a**e and Flatts Lane again, or drop over to Guissy Woods if you want to return via the old railway line.

There's loads and loads of routes to choose from. Wink

And anyway, Guissy Woods is a bit cr*p at teh minute with all the logging. Wink

To right it is.I rode up Eston hills last Sunday and not a bit of mud on me Smile.I then went over to Guis forest and got pitted in mud Sad.To top it off i got home and the hosepipe had frozen so i couldn't clean the bike Shocked Shocked

As Gunner says Plenty of routes from Marton up to Eston nab and over to guis forest,Marske woods and up to the moors.

The "harvesting" in Guisbro Woods isn't helping at all. I know it's got to be done, and will be with us for the long haul it seems.

From Marton, I'd also opt for quick runs out to Ayton, shouldn't take long to get there and up to Cooks and a run around Lonsdale and Sleddale etc.

Cheers for the replies lads! Have you got any GPS maps for stuff over Eston Hills? I've been going up the hills above Guisborough and got lost a few times due to the logging, places that I once recognised are just massive open spaces!

I'd love to tag along like!

No GPS Map I'm afraid, but you could have a look through these 2 topics at some of the routes and terrain that's available over Eston way, probably just what you're looking for, and I bet you didn't realise any of it was on your doorstep.

Those routes look great! I've been sledging up that way but never MTBing. Will have to try them next time it's relatively dry!

Can't you try the Castle Eden Walkway out for some fitness building jaunts. Question

Not much else 'round your way, I believe, the area is severely lacking in Bridleways, I remember chatting to someone at Summerhill Centre about.
