West of Newbury, Berks, darf sarf!!
On the off chance that any of you off-road hillbillys or hard roadmen are going to be there, come and have a chat with me.
I shall be one of the marshalls at the (about) 5-mile turn. |

FWIW, this was stunning!! Both men and women champions retained their titles ....... this scene has changed s-o-o-o much since I was part of it.
Marty, you would not have been bored riding this.
Men's champion (Michael Hutchinson) got to the turn (5.4 miles, slightly downhill and wind assisted) at 30.661mph. Got a timecheck that he was 10 seconds down on one of his fancied rivals ..... and came back uphill and into the wind at ....... 30.667mph!!
And this was on a traffic-free B-road, not a dragstrip, with the fancied favourites riding alone at two minute intervals.
Un-be-f***ing-lieveable!! |

Who writes this crap?
FWIW, and assuming that 'The Comic' doesn't mention it, Stephen Walkling was very badly baulked at the turn - had to go the wrong way around a bollard because some twunt of a motorist didn't see any of the 14,872 signs saying 'Caution - Bike Race!' Luckily the estimated 8-10 second loss didn't cost him a position, as the rider who finished in front of him was 11 seconds faster - SW certainly didn't lose that much time, TBH.
However, as a complete opposite, Charles McCulloch did a superb circumnavigation of the R/A turn, on his U-bars with no brakes and leaning over perfectly. Certainly the best of the day for me.
I'm sure that this moved him up at least two places in the results. |
