Bit of a story about the chris king headset - went to get the new forks fitted and thought it best they change the headset so just said get a hope one as was on offer for £40. then they rang after a week and said they couldnt get hold of a hope one for another week but had a gold chris king in and would do it for the same price so said yeah. Will try and take it with me to a new frame

Nice Platti, Wink

Just curious to know what the cassette range is and while your checking it what about your front chainset, what range is that Question Question

The Cassette is the cluster of rear cogs at the back wheel of your bike.

Cassettes come in various gear ranges, and the ones where the sizes are close together, with no really large sprockets are commonly referred to in marketing-speak as "road" cassettes. Wide range cassettes, with larger sprockets are commonly called "mountain" or "MTB" cassettes.

Count the number of teeth on your smallest sprocket, and the number of teeth on your largest sprocket, and this will give you your cassette range, i.e. 11-32.

Do the same with front chainset, but count the teeth on all 3 rings.

This information helps you to understand your bikes gearing and how your bike and you will cope with hills, speed on the flat, top speed, etc., etc.

For example, 2 riders of the same fitness/ability/weight could perform quite differently on the same bikes with a different gearing set up, this is something that is often overlooked by people when wanting to upgrade their bike.......

Hello everyone, I'm a new boy here too, so thought I'd throw in my beast to open myself to ridicule for riding a long travel bike for everything!

I'm too stupid to figure out how to add a photo, but here's a link to an image of her at MTBnortheast....

http://mtbnortheast.ning.com/photo/photo/show?id=1975135%3APhoto%3A480 2&context=user

She's a 4 year old Whyte 46 and I've added so many new bits I think the frame, bars and brakes are the only original bits Shocked I've fitted Fox 36 forks and find them to be truly excellent - they've saved me many times when I've hit something badly (Gunner please note!) - I'm a big fan of Fox forks, because they are very simple to use and work well most of the time.

I'm planning to build a short-travel rig for winter and more XC riding and will definately go for Fox 32's up front. I've also owned three Spec FSR's and loved them all - just not as much jump fun as the Whyte Twisted Evil[/url]

Nice looking rig there, Dave. Wink

What Spec FSR's did you have. bottom or top of range?

Would like to hear a bit more about them and how they perform Wink

Thanks for the comments lads, the bikes had a bad owner, but she's much loved Exclamation

Gunner, can't remember which ones I had - except the last was an Expert (or was that a Pro?) - wanted the top end but it came with those stupid Shimano combined gear / brake systems, which are crap. I went for the spec below, which had normal kit.

My mates have had a few FSR's too and we had some epic rides on them - would recommend an FSR for anyone wanting a full susser Laughing
