And same route again today in 39 minutes, despite the ruddy wind. Heart rate figures were encouraging too. _________________ Oh what fun we had, but at the time it seemed so bad, trying different ways.................... |

You're improving then!
Monday 2nd January
14:00- 22:00
First 'weigh-in' of the new year, this morning @ 9st 12Ib
Fairly steady run into work
Busy-ish afternoon, didn't look forward to the return journey
Managed a reasonable 28:03
Tuesday 3rd
10:00 - 18:00
Bike there & back
'Ackworth in the evening
very blustery/intermittant rain, but we still had 20+ turn up (more girls than blokes!)
A quick trip to the 'Water-Towre' & back at a good pace (5 miles in 35:23)
Wednesday 4th
08:00 - 16:00
Ran 'xc' throguh woods/river bank, setting off at 06:45, was a bit dark
Got soaked & covered in mud, due to overnight rain
Ran back in the reverse direction, not a bad time for the 'heavy going too!!)
Thursday 5th
Day-Off
In most of AM, went to Leeds in afternoon
'Ackworth' in the evning
Up to the 'Water-Tower' again, but we ended up with a new lady runner not far behind us (I timed my run there at 18:02; 2 & 1/2 each way, remember)
She was about 90 seconds behind, so Tom & myself took it easy on the way back to make sure she was safe (didn't know she was there on way out)
Friday 6th
Day-Off
In most of the AM, until a 5 & 1/2 mile cross-country in the aftneoon, in a steady 45:07
(it was the usual Goosehill/Kirkthorpe?heath/Half-Moon?Goosehill route)
Saturday 7th
14:00 - 22:00
Dragged out shopping* down to Meadowhal(Sheffield)l in the morning
I did end up with some new sunglasses though, as I said I'd take my Mumbos, or (first-generation!) Frogskins wioth me.
So, she bought me a pair of (black-iridium) 'Flak-Jackets'!!
Dropped off at work.
Ran home, fairly steadily
They'd been out to Bradford for a Curry, & brought me a Lentil Dahl home , & very nice it was too!!
Sunday 8th
13:30 _ 22:00
Bit of a lay-in
Should have rteally run hte Club handicap event at Fitzwilliam on the site of the 'PECO' 2, but decided against it
I don't like running flat out aginst the clock, as it's a bit of a time0-trial, the only way I could have done it was to pick off the runners in front one-by-one.
I'd said before Thursdays run that I might not attemd anyway
Will run to/home from work this afternoon, so that'll be a run every day this week!!
MIleage For Week = 45
*We're going to (that Alligator infested swamp known as) Florida for the first 2 weeks of February
Bit annoying, as I'll miss 'PECO 4, & a half-marathon that I'd entered as an incentive to increase my mileage/training
Will be back in good time for the 'Ilkley Moor Fell-Race' though, & I'm taking my running kit with me, I'm hoping to do at least 20 miles each week (don't think there's many hills in Florida though??)
http://www.ilkleyharriers.org.uk/index.php?page=imr
Edit @ 23:35
Regarding Sundays run home from work - a superb (if I say so myself, & despite a slow first half!) time of 27:04, which equals the 'PB' for that route _________________ Richard A Thackeray

Monday 9th
09:00 - 17:0
Ran 'xc' to work, very wet/muddy underfoot through the woods
Coming back through on the way home was a bit fraught in a couple of places though
Tuesday10th
09:00 - 17:30
Bike to work, so a steady ride in both directions
'Ackworth' in the evening, a group run upto the Water-Tower, & round to 'the Pit' (site of an old Coliery, now an 'exectuive housiing estate')
Fairly good run up to the Tower, then first to 'the Pit', & also managed to be first back to The Angel; 5.97 @ 45:12 (not bad with a steady pace first mile)
Wednesday 11th
Day-Off
In most of the morning, parke up early at the School in the afternoon (having picked up a sandwich/Frijj at the Co-Op)
Set off up towards the Water-Tower, past it & the 'Plague Stone'
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/303586
Carry on down Castle Syke Hill.
http://gb.mapometer.com/running/route_1693865.html
Got to the bottom edge of Pontefract & turned sharp-right towards East Hardwick, up Water Lane, round HundHill to the Rustic Arms
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/223843
Back along Station Road, and finish at the School; 5.57 miles @ 41:08
Thursday 12th
Day-Off
In most of day, bar a trip into Wakefield
'Ackworth' - ran at the 'early-shift' in the evening, due to child-minding.
Just went up to 'The Windmill' & back (5 miles)
Friday 13th
09:00 -17:00
Quite a cold run into work, but decent for it
(treated myself to Porridge, and a Bacon & Egg sandwich on arrival)
It wasn't a bad run home. not too cold
Saturday 14th
09:00 - 17:00
A very cold morning
Bike
Out for a Curry to Bradford, in the evening
Sunday 15th
Annual-Leave...
So I could run the ''PECO' at Temple Newsam in the morning.
I came down heavily at one point after the descent from the 'Temple' folly & giving my knee a good bang & losing about 10 places
Adrian, one of our runners, came down a lot heavier & 'face-planted' (bit higher up than me, & split his nose wide open - he'll have a scar from it)
Mileage For Week =36 & 1/2 _________________ Richard A Thackeray

Monday 16th
14;00 - 22:00
Rode in, very frosty on way home - almost scary on the corners, with a fair 'glisten' to the tarmac
Tuesday 17th
13:30 - 22:00
Ran in, still quite cold, but dry
Left knee stiff/sore after Sundays fall at the PECO
A very reasonable 28:03 on the way home
Wednesday 18th
14:00 - 22:00
A steady run in, but also a steady one home 29:06
Thursday 19th
Day-Off
In most of AM
Went to Leeds in afternoon, for a look round, almost bought new fell-shoes at 'Up & Running', as I fancied a pair of Bare-Grip 200
Out with 'Ackworth' in the evening, only a steady 5 (@ 41:40) to the Water-Tower and back, as knee was still a bit sore
Friday 20th
07:30 - 15:00
Ran in, in fell-shoes (RocLite 315) on the road, felt odd, a bit like wearing racing flats!!
Came home cross-country, whcih was the entire point for wearing them.
Quite a churned up/wet track. but did a decent 26:20
Saturday 21st
11:00- 20:00
Went on bike, so as to make sure I was okay for Sunday
Sunday 22nd
Day-Off
'Stanbury Splash' fell-race (see approriate thread)
Mileage For Week=39 _________________ Richard A Thackeray

Monday 23rd
13:30 - 22:00
BIke to work, as part of recovery from yesterdays Fell-Race
Absolutely threw it down most of the way there (clothes still wet at home time)
Tuesday 24th
14:00 - 22:00
A fairly steady run in @ 29:47
Also, a reasonable run back home @ 27:36
Wednesday 5th
13:00 - 22:00
Ran in again, quite cool though
Very steasy run back home @ 28:59
Thursday 26th
14:00- 22:00
Bike, verging on some ice as I rode home
Friday 27th
13:00 - 22:00
In nost of AM, steady run there, as my left knee's having a bit a 'niggle' again.
I still blame it on ithat fall at the PECO (Sunday 15th), & exacerbated by the steep -if very soft - descents ar the 'Splash'
Slow run home @ 29:58
Saturday 28th
Day-Off
Had a slight lay-in
Washed the Dyna-Tech in the morning
Rode over with Gail (Wrangles) & Pat (Wood) to watch the 'Northern Cross-Country Championships' in Pontefract Park in the afternoon
Some damned fast runners there
If I've read the lists correctly, there were over 1,000 started the Senior Mens race (the PDF I've seen only lists Clubs & numbers, not names)
Almost 400 in the Senior Ladies!!!
Sunday 29th
Day-Off
Didn't fancy the few fell-races on offer today
Went on the Club-ruun from Wintersett
About 22-34 of us turned up
A steady pace, but the group spilt up.
I plodded along with Pat & a couple of others (knee's still sore)
Tell it was a slow run, as the Garmin says;
Time = 1.26
Distance = 9.06 miles
Average Pace = 9:33/mile
Best Pace = 6:07/mile
We ran this route, but went down the eastern flank of the lake (NewMillerDam) between miles 3 & 4

I know it's only Wednesday, but I'm off to Florida for a fortnight on Friday, so might as well do this before we start packing tonight
Monday 30th
08:00 - 16:00
Ran to work 'XC' through woods/river bank.very dark at 06:50 too
Knee very sore and restricting my gait/stride
Coming home was just as bad
Tuesday 31st
08:00 - 16:00
Bike to work/home
'Ackworth' in the evening
5 miles to The Windmill, a slow run due to knee.
Picked up some speed over last mile, and got to pub first (by a minute or so)
Coming back hurt though!
Wednesday 1st February
08:00 -12:00
Ran to work 'XC' again, which hurt once more
Finished at noon, ran back home (slowly!)
Out to White Rose Centre for new glasses in afternoon (Oakley frames!)
Thursday 2nd
08:00 16:00
Last day!!!
Will be off on bike, but running in the evening.

I'll be back with one whole day to get over the jet-lag, then it's the PECO XC race 4 on the Sunday

Jet-lag might not be the issue (landed @ 06:50 this AM, after leaving at 18:00 'Florida time' yesterday), as the knee's still not right.
I only managed about 10 miles over the course of the fortnight, as it was too awkward.
SWMBO was even trying to persuade me to got for a MRI scan (saw 2 private scanners/clinics in one small town!! - think they were in Lake Placid, along Highway 27)
Plus, I'm ashamed to say, I've put weight on
(eating, but no hard exercise) _________________ Richard A Thackeray

Monday 20th
08:00 - 16:00
Knee sore, so drove in, the 'blue-van' wasn't needed as SWMBO at home in a pot, as some lasrdy-arsed Yank woman reversed over her foot in one of those mobility scooters whilst in a queue at EPCOT (or was it Universal??, all the parks blurred into one-another)
Took her to A&E on Saturday, not laong after arriving home, & a hairline fracture of the 3rd metatarsal was diagnosed
Had quite a limp all day
Tuesday 21st
08:00 - 16:00
Rode to work, knee wasn't too bad on bike (was hoping it's improving)
Sore though at work
SWMBO was at Orthopaedic clinic, & got told that it wasn't a fracture by the Consultant, so pot off
Tried to run at the 'club-night', but only got just over a mile, before I had to give up & limp back
Wednesday 22nd
08:00 - 16:00
Went in XKR, as knee was bad
During the course of the day I caught it on a trollley & it hurt like buggery!, so ended up booking in at A&E to make it official (in case it got bad enough to go home)
Took the fizzy Brufen & Co-Codamol offered, had an 'hands-on' examintion of the knee; & the relevant x-rays.
It was heartening to know there was no apparant Ligament damage, or joint/bone damage (barring a touch of calcification on the - I think - patellar ligament)
So I returned to work...............
Then an hour or so later I felt a bit 'iffy', so went to sit down on a handy bin (& opened the window)
Next thing I knew I was surrounded by the concerned faces of ODP's/theatre nurses!! Apparantly then I was dumped in a chair & taken to A&E.
On arrival, bloods were taken, patches of chest shaven for an EGC, blood sugar checked (@ '7')
Once I was able to speak in what I thought as was lucid manner, I explained to Sarah about the earlier pain-rellief (& the reasons)
She knew that I'd recently had that long-haul flight from Florida, & questioned me on 'query' Mosquito bites.
The 'D-dimer' came back positive, so the next thought was a 'PE' (Pulmonary Embolisom!)
I couldn't get a CT scan, as the on-call Radiographer was elsewhere & it wasn't deemed enough of a need for one during the night.
Was admitted onto the AAU, watched the clock till 01:10, then woken up at 01:45 to got to another ward!
Thursday 23rd
Had the CT at 09:00-ish (Radiographers had a list, so didn't question then at the time as to the results)
The Registrar told me later thatt the scan was negative, & that the 'D-dimer' possibly picked up on the inflammation/tissue-damage of the knee, as appararntly happens at times
Oh yes, & I got told by the Doctor who dealt with me (Sarah; a Specialist Registar) that on a simply visual observation on being wheeled into A&E that she thought I was having a heart-attack
(pale white, sweating, but cold, etc.....)
Curious thing is though, that I wsan't ultrasounded for a DVT, if that was a possible diagnosis
Mileage For Week = 2
I'm probably not going to try running till at least next weekend now _________________ Richard A Thackeray
